Going to new place all on your own can be such an amazing experience if you make the most of it. It's not hard to meet new people, you just have to put the foot forward and do it!

Luckily for me, I was studying abroad and was surrounded by other students in the same situation as me. I lived with 1 person from America, 1 person from France, 1 from Switzerland and 2 people from Malta. The houses surrounding mine all had people from different countries too. I was able to make great friendships with people from Malta, Germany, Brazil, Denmark and of course from the states as well.

Since we were in Ireland, we visited pubs together often. We wanted to immerse ourselves in the culture and see what Ireland was all about. I was able to see Irish dancing, music sessions and many drinking games when I went out to the pubs. This is also where I met most of my Irish friends!
Join clubs
If you are going abroad to a University, check out the clubs they have available! I joined the International Student Club which gave me access to highly discounted tours and occasional free trips around Ireland.
The skydiving club gave me the opportunity to go to France and solo skydive! I was able to skydive on my own 6 times, two of those times I pulled my own parachute!
The last club I joined was the outdoorsmen club. This offered day and weekend trips to popular hiking spots around Ireland.
Keep a log
Whether you write in a journal, on your phone, post pictures or keep a video log, find some way to keep track of what you do! I chose to keep a video journal of the places I went, the day to day things I did and everything in between. It's a video I cherish and submitted for the University of Limerick to use as a promotional video!
